Dear new and returning members, congratulations on becoming 2012-13 corps members. This is just a quick note to let you know what the next steps are. First, we will have a paperwork orientation for New Orleans members on Thursday, August 30th from 10:30 -12:30 (second year members will stay an extra hour to discuss the following weeks’ training). It will be at the First Grace Church 3401 Canal (park in the back and enter next to the playground). Make sure that you have all of your supporting documents in to me by then (birth certificate, social, references etc.). The orientation for the Baton Rouge folks will be at the Red Cross building located at 4655 Sherwood Common Blvd. beginning at 8am on Friday August 31st. We will begin with an introduction to disaster response from the Red Cross. This will put you all on their volunteer list in case we have a disaster and then you’ll be able to assist if interested. The rest of our orientation will conclude at 12:30.

The following week you will start at your site on Tuesday, September 4th. Please make sure you know where and when to report to your site. Wednesday through Friday you will be with us at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park. I will send out a letter with more details about that trip later. Folks coming from New Orleans will have to car pool and I will help facilitate that. I will have a 15 passenger van for those in Baton Rouge that would like a ride.

For our new members I will be pairing you up with one of our second year members so that you may email/call and ask questions, get advice etc.

This year we will use this space to plan for and then reflect on our team meetings and other trainings throughout the year. The agendas for each meeting will be posted here along with recommended readings/pod casts/videos etc. This is also a great place for members to discuss the subject further after the meeting. Corps members will also be charged with blogging about their site for at least one week during the course of the year. We want to know what's going on with you when you are with your Partner Organization!
