In our 21st year of operation, Delta Service Corps (DSC) will place 45 members in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans. DSC places members in schools, faith-based, non-profits and community organizations to provide direct service and to build capacity for those organizations.
Members serve full time from September 1st to July 31st under the direct supervision of their hosting organization. Members work on a specific project outlined in the host site's application. Examples of projects include starting an after-school program, implementing a AIDS awareness community education plan, and designing a summer program for children with disabilities. Members may also recruit, train and manage volunteers as well as provide community outreach about your program.
Corps members do receive a small living allowance and an education award during their year of service. To help off-set this cost, host sites will pay a $7,500 cash match for non-construction members and $9,000 for construction members to DSC by October 15th. This match includes the cost of the member's workman's comp insurance. Host Sites will also be responsible for covering members under their liability insurance.
Host Sites will be selected based on the general quality and ingenuity of the proposed project, the need for the project and the level of commitment shown towards the member's personal and professional development.
Host Site Applications will be available on our website on April 9th and are due by May 14th. Applicants can save the document to their computer and work on it in Microsoft Word. Send the completed application via email to lmoore@ladeltacorps.org. Host Sites will be notified of their acceptance by May 28th and will be required to attend an orientation in June (date and time TBA).
Potential corps members are recruited nationally and locally and may be any age over 17. They also must have a high school diploma or a GED, must be a US Citizen and can not be a felon. Host sites may request additional qualifications in their applications but are not allowed to discriminate based on gender, age, race, sexual orientation, religion or disabilities.
Corps Members apply directly to DSC and attend an interview with us in July. Upon successfully completing the application process, the host sites will then be able to interview members who have shown an interest in their project. Members should be matched and placed by the later part of August so that they may be oriented by DSC and ready to start their service on September 1st.
